Today at around 2 my doorbell rang. My friendly UPS driver handed me a box and I knew what was inside. Yep,  Leica sent me their dynamic duo of low light wide angle lenses to review right here on this web site! Woo hoo! The 21 and 24 Summilux. At $6k a piece, these puppies are not cheap but are they worth it?

I have been wanting to test these lenses out since they were introduced, but I just did not have the cash to buy them! But, thanks to Leica I can try them out, write about it, share it with all of you, and then cry when they have to be sent back :(

Remember, I just got these today and and after only a couple of hours with them I can already say that they are pretty amazing lenses. Dang, how much can I get if I sell 10 gallons of blood? Donate an organ? Hmmm, I do have an old truck in my driveway!

I only have about 40 shots under my belt with these bad boys but I can already say that they are up there with the best I have ever seen. I am sucker for FAST glass and these being 1.4 aperture lenses in a somewhat small package is very attractive. Imagine a 50 Summilux ASPH but in a 21 and 24. This is my FIRST impression, which may change as I will be shooting them MUCH more over the next week.

The build is pure Leica. I can say that the 24 feels solid and robust but at the same time pretty compact for such a fast wide angle lens. The 21 is a little bigger but still feels nice on the M8 body.

I will have my full review up within 2 weeks with images at 1.4, images at 5.6, images at F8. Low light, good light. Street shooting, and portraits. I want to find out what these lenses can do out in the real world and I have one week to do it. What I fear the most is that I will REALLY want one of these and I really can not afford one as I am saving for something SUPER cool in September.

For now, here are some of my first shots from today with the 21 and 24. Some are ISO 160, and some are ISO 1250. ALL are wide open at 1.4!
